Who are we?

We are a small group of students from the University of Exeter, looking to help rethink humanitarian aid in a post-pandemic world. The Conscious Aid Project seeks to help new and existing NGOs, which focus on providing clean water sanitation specifically, to help distribute aid across the world in a way which accommodates and overcomes existing inequalities and cultural differences.

On our website you will find a wealth of advice based on common problems and oversights, links and resources, case studies we have compiled of existing or past distribution programmes (what works and what doesn’t), and some perspectives of aid recipients so that it is always their voices leading the action.

In a world where crises like the Covid 19 pandemic have shown to exacerbate inequalities, it is all the more important that sanitary and water aid programmes address these inequalities and make aid equally accessible to all. Our hope is that our website can be a starting point to realising and developing strategies to resolve these issues.

The Project was part of the University’s Challenges Online week which took place in June 2021 and is based on research carried out at that time.
